William Dunlap

Fue un pintor estadounidense y pionero del
teatro estadounidense.
En 1783, a la edad de 17 años, pintó un
cuadro de George Washington que es propiedad del Senado de los Estados Unidos.
Más tarde estudió en Londres con Benjamin West, un pintor
británico-estadounidense que pintó una variedad de escenas históricas,
incluidas la Revolución estadounidense y la Guerra de los Siete Años.
En 1834, Dunlap publicó su libro History
of the Rise and Progress of the Arts of Design in the United States (Historia
del auge y el progreso de las artes del diseño en los Estados Unidos), que hoy
se considera una fuente inestimable de información sobre los artistas, el
coleccionismo y la vida artística en general en los períodos colonial y
federal.
